SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is a practice that helps individuals grow in their awareness of God’s presence and movements in their lives. As William A. Barry and William J. Connolly describe in The Practice of Spiritual Direction, it is “help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication, to respond, to grow in intimacy with God, and to live out the consequences of that relationship.”
Rather than providing answers or solutions, spiritual direction offers a sacred space for reflection, prayer, and discernment. The focus is on deepening your relationship with God and learning to recognize His guidance in your daily life.
Who is Spiritual Direction For?
Spiritual direction is for anyone seeking a deeper connection with God, whether they are in a season of transition, facing challenges, or simply desiring to grow in faith. It provides the benefit of an outside perspective, helping you notice and respond to God’s presence in ways you may not see on your own. This is mainly facilitated by asking timely questions that are led by the Holy Spirit.
What to Expect in a Session
Each session lasts one hour and is held monthly via Zoom, Google Meet, Facetime, or a similar platform. During a session, you are invited to share where you sense God moving in your life, reflect on moments of deep emotion, or explore areas where you expected to feel something but didn’t.
As your spiritual director, I listen prayerfully and ask questions that the Holy Spirit brings to mind, helping you discern the patterns of God’s work in your life. The goal is to cultivate a deeper awareness of His presence and guidance.
Ongoing Support
Unlike coaching, which typically has a set goal and endpoint, spiritual direction is an ongoing journey. These sessions can continue for as long as they remain beneficial, providing continual support as you seek to stay connected to the heart of the Father. The goal is not dependency on a spiritual director; in fact, it is often encouraged to experience guidance from different directors throughout your life, as each brings unique perspectives and asks different questions to help deepen your spiritual awareness.
Pivotal Experience
“Being directed by Kimberly was a pivotal experience for me in my spiritual journey. She was attentive and asked thoughtful questions, and I could tell she was listening to the Holy Spirit to guide our conversation. Through spiritual direction with her, I became more aware of the small yet steady movements of God in my daily life. Developing a rhythm of living in step with God and being present to my own emotions and thoughts was deeply enriched by these sessions. If you are looking to grow spiritually and cultivate a greater awareness of God’s presence, I highly recommend working with Kimberly!”

Spiritual Direction FAQs
What is the difference between spiritual direction and counseling?
Spiritual direction is about creating space for reflection and discerning where God is moving in your life whereas counseling is about working through traumas and problems.
How do I prepare for spiritual direction?
Before your session, take a few minutes to breathe deeply and ask God to show you what would be a good place to start. You might even take some time to read the bible and see what the living Word has to say.
What is an example of spiritual direction?
A typical spiritual direction session includes a moment of silence to come to ourselves. The directee is given the floor to share something emotional or a place you see/don’t see God moving in your life. As the director listens, they are also listening to the Holy Spirit. Then the director asks a question to help the directee begin to make connections.
What do you look for in spiritual direction?
Direction is all about discerning the moves of God in your life. While you may talk about your life or perhaps even a problem, the bigger goal is to discern where God is present in those moments.
How long of a commitment do I need to make?
To truly experience the benefits of spiritual direction, I recommend a minimum commitment of three months. A free 30-minute introductory session is available to ensure we are a good fit for each other before beginning the process.
How do you come up with questions?
Ultimately, God is the real director in this process. My role is simply to listen, reflect, and help you recognize His presence more clearly.
