wor·ship
[wur-ship]
noun
1. reverent honor and homage paid to God or a sacred personage, or to any regarded as sacred.

if you look up worship in a thesaurus, idolatry is one of the synonyms.

i·dol·a·try
[ahy-dol-uh-tree]
noun, plural i·dol·a·tries.

1. the religious worship of idols.
2. excessive or blind adoration, reverence, devotion, etc.

worship is so interesting to me. at it’s core, it is intentional. you can’t be truly reverent and not intentional. so what happens when the intentionality and true reverence wears off?

the verse that keeps coming back to my mind lately is hebrews 2:1…

Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.

in my life i worship and eventually i find my way to just going through the motions…not really worshiping. next thing i know i am worshiping something that was created to point me to worship of the God who created it.

sometimes we choose to worship something other than the Creator. but sometimes, we drift into worship of the created.

for me it was food. for you it may be drugs. maybe sex. perhaps a way of interacting with certain people or maybe just a self-righteousness.

i don’t think i ever contentiously chose to turn to food…it happened much younger than you can really process those things. but early i started believing a lie. very early i made an inner vow which left me drifting from God toward something He created to give Him glory and chose to worship it instead of Him.

i am excited for a new journey i am about to embark on…learning to worship him through eating healthy & preparing meals (which i HATE to do for just myself). learning to worship Him through a butt whoopin in the gym because i want to “do Him good and not evil all the days of my life” out of love and adoration instead of earning. a journey of simply enjoying a good meal and letting it create worship in my heart for the God who made it.

it is a mind change…but thankfully He is the God who renews our minds when we set them on Him. so here’s do the adventure of doing the hard work!!!
